Obituary

DON E. BAILEY, 83, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at his home.

Born on March 31, 1930 in Burden, Kansas, he was the son of Leonard and Cecile (Maxwell) Bailey. He was raised and received his education in Burden and graduated from Burden High School in 1948. Don also attended Wichita State University.

A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Bailey proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Fireman Instructor/1st SGT.

He was united in marriage to Lucille Triplett on June 2, 1951 in Denver, Colorado. The couple made their home in Denver before moving to Austria while Don served in the military. Following his honorable discharge the couple moved to Sacramento, California. In 1953, they moved to Burden, Kansas where they have made their home. Don owned and operated Bailey Drilling Company. He was employed at Boeing from 1965 to 1993 when he retired.

He was a member of the Burden Baptist Church where he served on the Financial Board. Don was also a member of the Burden Cemetery Board and the Lions Club. He loved spending time with his family and rarely missed their sports events. He enjoyed music, woodworking, and was an avid University of Kansas fan as well as the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs.

His family includes:
His wife: Lucille of the home;
His son: Robert Paul Bailey and wife Pam of Arkansas City, KS;
His daughters: Karen (Bailey) Iverson and husband Rod of Arkansas City, KS; and Lynda (Bailey) Custer and husband Ben of Olathe, KS;
His sister: Doris Bailey Lewis of Lawton, OK;
His 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and his faithful Boston Terrier "Meg".
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant son, David Lee; his sisters: Lois Bailey Courtney and Betty Bailey Courtney; and his brothers, Max Bailey and Bob Bailey.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Burden Baptist Church. Military committal honors will follow at the Burden Cemetery. A visitation will be held at 1:00 P.M., an hour prior to the service.

Memorials have been established in Don's name for the First Baptist Church and the Cookson Hills Christian Ministries. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
