Dérek Ellis Bazil, 36, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, August 8, 2014, in Wichita, Kansas.

Born May 1, 1978 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Brett E. and Ann M. (Collmann) Bazil. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1996. After school he traveled with work and lived in several areas in southeastern Kansas.

On October 15, 1997 Dérek married Kimberly Neubecker in Winfield, Kansas. The couple later divorced. He later married Nickie Cheslic on December 25, 2001, in Burlington, Kansas. To this union two children were born. The couple later divorced.

In 2003 Dérek moved to Wichita, Kansas for more opportunities with work. There he met Teresa Gott and the couple made their home in Wichita.

He loved music and animals. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

His family includes:
His companion of 11 years: Teresa Gott of Wichita;
His parents: Brett and Ann Bazil of Winfield;
His daughter: Rachel Bazil of Nevada, MO;
His sister: Audree Gottlob and husband, Russell of Peck;
His paternal grandmother: Betty Hickey of Arkansas City; and
His 3 nephews and 2 nieces.

Dérek was preceded in death by an infant son Paul Bazil, his paternal grandfather, George Bazil, his maternal grandparents, Paul and Irene Collmann, and an aunt, Clifdel Wehmeier.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 18, 2014 at Mt. Vernon Cemetery northwest of Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas on Thursday evening, August 14, 2014, from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.

In lieu of flowers the family request a memorial to help defray funeral expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
