DELMONT S. MILLER, 97, of Oxford, Kansas, passed away April 4, 2009 at Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Oxford.
Born December 12, 1911 in Beaver Township, he was the son of John B. and Hattie Pearl (Sachett) Miller. The Miller family moved to Kellogg when Delmont was 10 years old where he then lived the remainder of his life. At 16 years, he started farming with his father by custom cutting using steam engine and belt driven threshing machines in many areas of Kansas and Oklahoma. Delmont received his education in the Mt. Zion area.
In 1939, he and two neighbor boys drove a rebuilt Model A Ford to the World's Fair in New York City. They toured many states and some of Canada. The boys were gone several weeks and lived out of the trunk of that car. They managed to spend only about $90 each during their trip.
Delmont received the Lord in 1979 and his life was turned right side up. He started attending church which is where he met Alice (Plummer) Harris, the love of his life. At the age of 70, 1982, Delmont married Alice who preceded him in death in 1992, along with step daughter Mary (Harris) Hanna.
Delmont is survived by:
His sister: Mae Belle Reed of Owasso, OK;
His nieces and nephew: Linda & Glade Hinnen of Tulsa, OK; Danny & Kathy Reed of Broken Arrow, OK; and Judi Smith of Norman, OK;
His step-children: Richard & Arnette Harris of Anthony, KS; Martha & Dywane Good of Parsons, KS; Irvin & Roslan Harris of Green Valley, AZ; Robert & Arlene Harris of Douglass, KS; Donnie & DeLores Harris of Wellington, KS; and Charles & Betty Harris of Douglass, KS; and a host of cousins.
