Deborah Mae Phillips, 63, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away, Tuesday morning, January 14, 2014 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield. Despite being born with cerebral palsy, she lived life to the fullest and didn't let anything get her down.
Born January 2, 1951 in Wichita, Kansas, she was the daughter of John E. and Hannah M. (Gunther) Phillips. She was raised and received her education in Wichita, Kansas. She moved to Parsons in 1961 and later to New Horizons in Valley Center. Deborah had lived in the Bethany Home in Phoenix, Arizona until its closing. In 1998 she moved to Southwind ResCare in Winfield.
She was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church in Wichita and was baptized in 1966. She enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, working math problems and watching television, especially the Wizard of Oz. She also enjoyed attending church and Bible studies. Deborah was actively involved with the cerebral palsy ranch every summer run by the Kansas Jaycees. She was a very thoughtful, giving and appreciative person.

Her sister: Jeanne Hutchinson and husband, Steve of Derby;
Her nephews: Justin Eklund and wife, Beth of Wichita; David Jon Eklund of Derby; and
Her great nephews and nieces: Faith, Krista, Jesse and Jonathon Eklund, all of Wichita.
Deborah was preceded in death by her father, John E. Phillips and her step-father, Ralph L. Bishop.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 17, 2014 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will be held at 3:00 P.M. at Highland Cemetery in Marion, Kansas. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 4 to 7 P.M.
A memorial has been established in Deborah's name for Southwind ResCare. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
