Obituary

David Keith Smith, 63, Winfield, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.

Born December 10, 1954 in Moberly, Missouri, he was the son of Dale and Shirley (Alexander) Smith. He was raised and received his education in Moberly, graduating from Moberly High School in 1973. David began working at age 11 as a paperboy as well as working for his father and uncle in their refrigeration business. He continued working through school at various jobs, including Dogs & Suds and Pizza Hut. After high school, he attended Moberly Junior College and later attended Truman State, where he graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. David married Elizabeth Rodhouse in 1975. To this union, three children were born. The couple later divorced.

In 1977, David began his banking career with City Bank in Moberly, Missouri. He moved to Dexter in 1983 and served as President of Farmers State Bank which was acquired by Union State Bank in 1984. In 1992, David graduated from the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. He continued to work for Union State Bank as Senior Vice President until 2001.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Thompson on October 21, 1989 in Dexter, Kansas. In 2001, David briefly left the banking business and became CFO of Jake's Fireworks in Pittsburg, Kansas. In 2003, he accepted a position at Community National Bank in Pittsburg and remained there, transferring with the bank to Winfield in 2009.

He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Winfield, as well as the Legacy Foundation and South Central Kansas Economic Development Council as a District Member. David was past president of the Arkansas City Chamber of Commerce, Dexter Civic Club and served as a board member and on the site council for Unified School District #471. He enjoyed playing the harmonica, going on family vacations, barbequing his famous chicken, woodcarving and watching the Wisconsin Badgers. He loved Christmas, and especially loved spending time with his family.

Wife: Virginia Smith of Winfield;
Children: Emily Smith of Winfield; Blake Smith of Arkansas City; Kara Smith of Wichita; Corey Smith and wife, Amanda of Olathe; Kimberly Bailey and husband, Michael of Derby; Keith Smith and wife, Torri of Hays;
Parents: Dale and Shirley Smith of Columbia, MO;
Brothers: Marty Smith and wife, Mary of Baldwin, MO; Carey Smith and wife, Patty of Columbia, MO; and
Grandchildren: Conner, Reagan, Peyton, Harper, Brendan and Caroline.

Services will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at First Church of the Nazarene in Winfield. Private burial will be held at a later date. Visitation at Miles Funeral Service on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7. The family will greet visitors during this time.

Memorials have been established in David's name for the First Church of the Nazarene, Winfield Isle of Lights or the Emily Smith College Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
