Obituary

David Musgrove, 83, of Winfield Kansas, passed away Monday morning, December 26, 2016 at Winfield Senior Living Community, following a short illness.

Born on April 2, 1933 in Mankato, Kansas, he was the eighth of ten children born to Orley and Susie (Dickson) Musgrove. He began his elementary education in Mankato, and in 1948 moved to Manhattan, Kansas. Dave's love for music was established at an early age. While still in elementary school, his trumpet skills were good enough to play in the high school band, second chair.

Dave and his dad worked at the Perry Packing Company in Manhattan at the time of the great flood of 1951. He held a grocery store job while completing his high school education in 1952, and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 where he served in the 97th Army Band playing trumpet.

Dave was united in marriage to Nedra Pack on December 27, 1953 in Manhattan. He was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and they made their home in Lawton until he was honorably discharged in 1955. Dave and Nedra moved to Winfield, Kansas in 1960 where he was hired as a parts clerk at the local Chevrolet dealer. Over the next 19 years he worked his way up to managing the department. In 1979 he was hired by Binney and Smith and took on the challenge of forming a parts department for the Crayola factory. He organized and managed the operation until retirement when the plant closed in 1998. Remaining active until this fall, he took great pride in the lawns he kept.

Dave was a member of GracePointe Assembly of God, formerly First Assembly of God in Winfield. He served a number of years as Deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent.

His family includes: his wife of 63 years, Nedra; daughter Debra and husband Rev. Bruce Rahlf of Bullhead City, AZ; daughter in law Danielle and husband Roland Hovey of Winfield; grandchildren Jordan Hovey and wife Elissa of Winfield, Madison and husband Devin Metzinger of Hillsboro, Kansas, Ally Hovey and boyfriend, Aubrey Herlocker of Winfield; surviving siblings Nina and husband Jimmie Todd, Shirley and husband Russell Lewis, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brad Musgrove; brothers, Lorraine, J.C., Albert and Paul, sisters Geneva Furey, Marie Conyers and Elizabeth Earnest and sister in law Bwana Drennan.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at GracePointe Assembly of God in Winfield. Interment and Military Committal Honors will follow at Highland Cemetery.
