Obituary

David Lee Massey, 66, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, November 25, 2017 at his home.

Born December 7, 1950 in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of Lyle Woodrow and Clara Amelia (Trear) Massey. He was raised and received his early education in Wichita. While in high school, David moved to Dexter, Kansas and David graduated from Dexter High School in 1969. Following high school, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. In 1972, after receiving his honorable discharge from the Army, David returned to Dexter and began attending Southwestern College.

David was united in marriage to Gay Johnson on June 8, 1974 at the Dexter Baptist Church. The couple made their home in Dexter. The couple had three daughters and later divorced. After receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies, Education and Psychology, David began teaching and coaching at Dexter High School. In 1982, he began farming as well as working for Rubbermaid in Winfield, remaining at Rubbermaid until 1998. After leaving Rubbermaid, he worked several positions in plastics and manufacturing all over the country, including Georgia, South Carolina and Arkansas. He retired in 2012 and moved to Winfield, Kansas, to be near family.

David was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion as well as being a Charter Member of the National WWII Museum. He enjoyed farming, cooking, karaoke and watching sports.

His family includes:
His daughters: Roxanne Jennings and husband, Rodney of Winfield; Crystal Noles of Winfield; Shaunda Smith and husband, Shannon of Winfield;
His brothers: Lyle Massey of Winfield; Bob Massey and wife, Margaret of Dexter; Joe Massey of Cedar Vale; Jack Massey and wife, Diane of Dexter;
His sister: Deloris Massey of Wichita; and
His 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two infant siblings, Gregory and Rosemary and sister-in-law, Judy Massey.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Inurnment will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7. The family will greet visitors during this time.

A memorial has been established in David's name for the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
