DAVID W. LOWE, 54, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, March 30, 2012 due to injuries received while working on his farm with his mastiff, Sally Jo.
Born on July 6, 1957 in Miami, Oklahoma, he was the son of Wayne LeRoy and Hazel Lavon (Redden) Lowe. He was raised and received his education in Miami, Tulsa Oklahoma, and Oxford, Kansas before coming to Winfield where he graduated from Winfield High School in 1975.
Following graduation David began employment at Morton Buildings as a foreman and worked there until 1981. He then completed a machinist training program before beginning work in Mulvane, Kansas for QSI until 1984. David went to work for General Electric where he worked in the machine shop. He was currently employed there as a work leader in the maintenance department.
He was united in marriage on November 26, 1975 to Brenda Lee Eastman in Sedan, Kansas. The couple made their home in Winfield. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and GE Union Local #1004. David was actively involved with the youth of the community where he had been a Walnut Valley 4-H swine leader, ASA Umpire, coached girls softball, boys baseball and youth football. He started the Winfield Girls Fastpitch Association in 1990.
He loved spending time with his family and being outdoors, especially tinkering with tractors and golf carts. He also enjoyed boating, camping, hunting and jug fishing at Kaw Lake Oklahoma. David could be found every year at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival smoking food for the neighbors.

His daughters: Kirsta Kalkwarf and husband Greg of Conifer, CO; and Lucretia Lowe of Wichita, KS;
His mother: Hazel Bailey of Dodge City, KS;
His brothers: Jim Sharbutt and wife Patty Welch of Wichita, KS; Wayne LeRoy Lowe Jr. of Arkansas; and Mark Bailey and wife Heather of Celing, OK;
His sister: Shelley Shaw of Pratt, KS;
His grandchildren: Emma Elizabeth Fern Lowe, Audra Abigail Rose Lowe and Bryce Lowe Kalkwarf.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne LeRoy Lowe, stepfather Allen Earl Bailey, grandparents Helen 'Granny' Cox and Larry Cox, Sylvia 'Baw' and James Lowe and uncle Don Lowe.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, April 5, 2012 at the First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may sign a register book at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., and the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.
A memorial has been established in David's name for an educational fund for his grandchildren. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
