David L. Kerr, 62, of Winfield, Kansas passed away on the morning of January 13th, 2012 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield, Kansas.
David was born on January 25, 1949 in Winfield, KS; he was the son of Earl and Gladys Kerr. He was raised on the family farm and received his high school diploma in Dexter, Kansas. After completing his education, he served two years active duty for the U.S. Marines in Viet Nam. After fulfilling his duty, David returned to Kansas where he farmed, ranched and worked construction throughout his life. David enjoyed working hard, spending time with family and friends and he also had a passion for the outdoors, which included camping, fishing, horses, and gardening.
David married twice, first to Cheryl Greenleaf Crow of Winfield, KS and then to Caren MacKinnon Kerr of Pratt, KS; his wife of 23 years. He left behind him three daughters, including Jessica Cassaboom of Winfield, KS from his marriage to Cheryl Greenleaf Crow along with Kendra Nightingale of Lubbock, TX and Kimberly Kerr of Salina, KS from his marriage to Caren Mackinnon Kerr. Jessica has two children, Courtney and Alec; Kendra is married to Cameron Nightingale; and Kimberly has three sons, Treyton, Kadin and Jaxson.
David's father Earl Kerr of Burden, KS preceded him in death. Other family surviving David include his mother Gladys Kerr; sister Paulette Rush and her husband Alan, brother Lincoln Kerr and his wife Linda; brother Marty Kerr and his wife Johnna; and brother Robin Kerr and his wife Maria all of Winfield, KS. David's siblings have a number of children and grandchildren living in Winfield area.
A memorial service will be held in honor of David at the Grandview United Methodist Church (9044 111th Rd, Winfield Kansas) on Wednesday, January 18th, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. The family will greet friends following the service. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. A memorial has been established in David's name to the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, KS and contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
