Obituary

DAVID DEAN KENNEDY, 83, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away early Monday morning, March 28, 2011 at Medicalodge in Dewey, Oklahoma.

Born May 27, 1927 near Atlanta, Kansas, he was the son of Roy and Augusta "Gussie" Kennedy. He was raised and received his education in Atlanta, Kansas.

He honorably served in the United States Navy 1945-1946. He married Margaret Lovell May 23, 1947, and they made their home in Winfield, KS and later in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. David worked for Deal Lumber Company in Winfield for 12 years prior to becoming a Prudential Insurance Company agent. He was the staff manager in Winfield and then in Bartlesville for twenty three years.

He was a member of the East Cross United Methodist Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma where he served in many capacities over the last 35 years. He was heavily involved with the Masonic fraternity in Winfield and Bartlesville for 54 years, as well as being a Shriner
in Winfield and Bartlesville for 39 years. He was a member of the Rock Club,
Diabetic Support Club, Rotary Club, the American Legion and the Civitan Club.
He was also a member of the Association of Life Underwriters and served the Boy Scouts for twenty years. David had a busy and productive retirement centering around service to others through his club and organizational activities. He was also great at barbecue, smoking meat and lapidary.

His family includes:
His wife of 64 years: Margaret Kennedy of Bartlesville, Oklahoma;
His daughter: Karen "Shelly" Kennedy and husband, Todd Soli; Grandson: Darr Soli of Bridgewater, Virginia;
His son: Dave Kennedy and wife, Trudy Kennedy of Arkansas City, Kansas, Grandsons: Jace Kennedy and wife, Lacey and their children, Taylor and Colten of Arkansas City, Kansas; and Kyle Kennedy and wife Becka and their children, Lexi and Kole of Wichita, Kansas;
His sister: Zoe Doolittle and husband, Paul of Winfield, Kansas; and
Sister-in-law Kay Kennedy of Arkansas City, KS.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Richard (Dick) Kennedy.

Memorial services and Masonic Committal honors will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the East Cross United Methodist Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Inurnment and Military Committal honors will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 2:30 P.M. at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas. Miles Funeral Service of Winfield, Kansas is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice in David's name.

The family would like to thank Medicalodge of Dewey for the loving and dedicated care they gave to Dave during his short stay with them, and thanks to Hope Hospice for their support and care .
