Obituary

Dava Carrell, 82, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 2, 2020 at her home.

Dava was born on July 31, 1937 in Russell, Kansas. She was the daughter of David and Hildegard (Morgenstern) Dumler. She was baptised at St. John's Lutheran Church, was raised and received her education in Russell where she played saxophone in the school band.

Dava was united in marriage to Ron Carrell, her second husband, on June 30, 1989 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield where she has long been a member. The couple made their home in Winfield where Dava was a homemaker as well as worked for a time at the Binney and Smith Credit Union. Dava was an avid quilter who enjoyed designing and making quilts as well as conducting workshops and lectures to various quilt guilds and other groups throughout the area. She received acclaim for being the first certified quilt instructor in the state of Kansas. Dava was an active member of the community and was widely known and loved. Her generosity of spirit lives on through those she touched with her patient instruction and helpful guidance.

She is survived by her four children from her first marriage to Marvin Simonton: Mona Anz of Tryon, OK; Chuck Simonton of Washington DC; Marsha Sawyer of Guthrie OK; and Troy Simonton of Paola. Mona's family includes husband Andre, Eleah Anz with daughter Serene Abdel Majid, Isaac Anz (wife: Christen), Olivia Anz, Amelia Anz Oldsen (husband: Luke and their children Autumn, Elainna, Simone and Charlie), Irene Anz, and Mathias Anz (wife: Destiny). Chuck's family includes his wife Christiane. Marsha's family includes David Sawyer (daughter: Raelynn), Abigail Otwell (husband: Taylor and their children James and Victoria), Hannah Helberg (husband: Joseph and their daughter Tirzah), Rebekah Sawyer, Lydia Sawyer, Susanna Sawyer, Eliana Sawyer, Gabriel Sawyer and Joanna Sawyer. Troy's family includes wife Ruthy with son Seth and daughter Emma. Dava is also survived by her twin sister, Donna Hutchison, her nieces Lori and Lynn Dumler all of Russell, Kansas and her nephew Brad Dumler of Arlington, Texas.

Dava is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Rich Dumler, his wife Vera, a sister Lenora Miller, a nephew Steffan Miller, and a niece Merceda Ares.

Memorial services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, January 10th at 10:00am. Inurnment will immediately follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in Dava's name for The Salvation Army and Trinity Luthern Church, Winfield, Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
