Darrell Eugene Horst, 84, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday afternoon, September 29, 2023, at William Newton Hospital.

Born August 24, 1939, in Winfield, he was the son of Elmer W. and Grace M. (Rising) Horst.  He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1958.  While in school, Darrell delivered milk bottles for Bob Barnes.  Following school, he began working for Alfred Barnes at Sunrise Dairy.

He was united in marriage to Nancy Miller on August 3, 1962, at Tisdale Methodist Church.  The couple made their home in Winfield, where Darrell went to work at D&J Market and then Walker's College Hill Grocery.  In 1978, Darrell began working for Steve Hamlin at Prairieland Processors.  He went to Creekstone in the 80's, retiring in October 2013.

Darrell was a member of Tisdale Methodist Church.  He enjoyed woodworking and built his and Nancy's home.  He especially loved farming.

His family includes his wife Nancy of Winfield; his daughters, Tamara Neu and husband, Ed of Edmond, OK; Tracy Horst of Sherman, TX; his granddaughters, Stephanie McCabe and husband, Isaac of Edmond; Samantha Neu of Portland, OR; his great grandchildren, Madison, Lily, and Kathryn McCabe, and Finn Neu; his sister Jeannette Robinson and husband, Melvin of Derby; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Tisdale Methodist Church.  Private interment will take place at Highland Cemetery.   A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Tuesday from 5 to 8 P.M.  The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

Memorials have been established in Darrell's name for Winfield High School FFA Alumni and for Tisdale Methodist Church Camp Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
