Obituary

Darrell N. Crow, 92, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023, at his home.

Born October 5, 1931 in Cambridge, Kansas, he was the son of Norman F. and Nellie (Workman) Crow. He was raised and educated in Cowley County, graduating from Winfield High School. Darrell served in the Navy during the Korean War, patrolling the Rhine River for two years. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he returned to Winfield.

He married Ralpha L. Goff and to this union four children were born, Jeff, Debbie, Ralph, and Darla. The couple later divorced.  He later married Loyce L. Caudill.  Darrell worked at Boeing, and later in the meat department at Dillons. While at Dillons he served meat to the owner of Van's Burger Station. He soon began working for Van, and when Van decided to retire, Darrell bought the restaurant and renamed it the Burger Station. Darrell owned and operated the Burger Station for over 29 years before retiring and selling it to his son Jeff, who has continued running it the last 31 years.

Upon retiring, Darrell took up many hobbies including flying, horses, sporting clays, traveling, hunting, and fishing. He bought a plane and used it to deliver newspapers to small towns. His love for horses led him and his many friends to racing them with a jog bike at many different state and county fairs. Next came the competition sporting clay targets. He traveled all over the country competing, even receiving All American status in his category. He loved to hunt, especially with his bird dogs. He enjoyed hunting deer with his wife, Loyce, and would even process deer for himself and his close friends and family.

Darrell and Loyce lived on Grand Lake in Grove, Oklahoma, where he loved to fish out of his boat. They eventually returned to Winfield and Darrell started flying remote control airplanes. He then worked in maintenance at the golf course, mowing the greens, and later drove a school bus before retiring again. He later built a four bay car wash and operated the cafe at the Winfield Sale Barn.

He leaves behind his wife of 47 years Loyce Crow; his children, Jeff Crow of Winfield; Debbie Miller and husband, Mike of Winfield; his step-daughter Julie Hutchinson and husband, Raymond of Arkansas City; his grandchildren, Rusty McCullough (Kim); Dennis McCullough (Michelle); Brandi Bryan; Jamie McGriar; Kaitlyn Peine (John); and Andrea Mulvey Marglan; his step grandchildren, Rachelle Kidd; John Kidd; and Isaiac Hutchinson; his great-grandchildren, Annlee; Alan; Isaiah; Kyleigh; Jazmine; Dakota; Emery; and Ellis; his step great-grandchildren, Nathan; Hailey; Josh; Riley; Jacob; Carmen; Ava; and Lynn; and many nieces and nephews with two special nieces, Christy Ann and Vicki Crow.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 16, 2023, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.  A private family interment will take place at a later date.
