Darrel D. Rhodes, 82, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away, Tuesday evening, November 6, 2018 at his home surrounded by family.
Born July 13, 1936 in Turkey Ford, Oklahoma, he was the son of Albert Ivan and Fronie May (Bartlow) Rhodes. He was raised and received his education in Turkey Ford, and attended high school in Grove, Oklahoma.
He was united in marriage to Eva Kinslow on July 1, 1956 at Cedar Point Church in Anderson, Missouri. The couple made their first home in Oxford, Kansas, before moving to Winfield in 1957. Darrel began working at Smith and Moon upon moving to Winfield, until going to work as a welder for Tottons Construction. Following a workplace accident, he returned to Smith and Moon where he remained until taking a position with General Electric. The family moved to a farm outside of Winfield in 1972. He remained at GE until retiring as supervisor in 1991. Darrel continued farming and raising livestock until finally retiring for good in 2013.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed farming, telling stories, reading, and going to coffee with friends.
His family includes his wife Eva Rhodes of Winfield; his son Daryl Ray Rhodes of Winfield; Deandra Kay Baron of Winfield; his sister Janice Burleson of Grove, OK; and his seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Darrel was preceded in death by 12 siblings and a son, Troy Shannon Rhodes.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Darrel's name for Smile Train. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
