Darlene M. Carter, 88, of Oxford, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, January 10, 2012 at Riverview Manor in Oxford.
Born January 29, 1923, in Fort Des Moines, Iowa, she was the daughter of Charles E. and Stella Mae (Gay) Carter. She was raised and received her education in western Kansas, graduating as Salutatorian at Norcatur High School in 1941. She later attended and graduated from Hutchinson Business College. After school Darlene went to work for the State of Kansas welfare department.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hutchinson. She enjoyed playing the piano and crocheting. Darlene was proud to be a 60 year survivor of Breast Cancer.

Her sisters: Charlotte Mortenson of Dillsboro, IN; Ragena Bone of Parsons;
Her niece and nephews: Dr. Terry Mortenson; Kari Nelson; Sherry Peavler; Linda Bone-Carter; Ronald Bone; Steven Bone; Greg Carter; Gary Carter; Gerry Carter; Galen Carter; and
Several great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by two infant sisters: Blanch and Stella Carter; one sister: Dorothy Carter; one brother: Leslie Carter; one sister-in-law: Vitula Shalenberger; one brother-in-law: Arthur Mortenson; and one niece: Leslie Charlene Carter.
Funeral Services will be held Friday afternoon, January 13, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will be held Monday afternoon, January 16, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at Hillside Cemetery in Kinsley, Kansas.
A Memorial has been established in Ms. Carter's name for Riverview Manor in Oxford. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
