Daniel Dean Durbin, 63, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Thursday night, August 25, 2016 at South Central Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.
Born October 29, 1952 in Sedan, Kansas, he was the son of Emera Mahlon "Stub" and Barbara Joan (Hainlin) Durbin. He was raised and received his education in Moline, graduating from Moline High School in 1970. He then attended Kansas State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's in Business Administration in 1974. After graduating from Kansas State, he moved to Conrad, Iowa where he began working as an International Sales Rep for Ritchie Manufacturing.
Dan was united in marriage to Ann Sherman on November 30, 1974 at the Moline United Methodist Church in Moline, Kansas. The couple made their first home in State Center, Iowa and Dan continued working for Ritchie Manufacturing. In 1977, they moved to Winfield, Kansas where Dan worked for a short time for Halliburton and Morton Buildings. In 1979, he began working as an auditor for the Kansas Department of Education, and in 1985 started his career as Business Manager for the Winfield Correctional Facility. He remained with the facility until retiring in 2011. After retiring, Dan and Ann moved to rural Cowley County east of Arkansas City.
He was a member of Quail Forever, Moline Alumni Association and Elk County Historical Society. He enjoyed genealogy, hunting, wildlife conservation and playing cards. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

His brother: Charles Mahlon Durbin and wife, Angie of Gentry, AR;
His mother-in-law: Rosemary Sherman of Chanute;
His grandchildren: Kaylie Michele Aikins and Dylan Dru Durbin of Winfield;
His nephews: William Hellman of Omaha, NE; Sawyer Ferguson of Moline; and
His nieces: Kelly Peterson of Madison, WI; Emily Sherman of Minneapolis, MN; Calista Case of Moline.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dr. Keith Sherman.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Moline United Methodist Church in Moline, Kansas. A private family burial will take place at the Moline Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas on Thursday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in Dan's name for the Cherokee Strip Chapter of Quail Forever in Ponca City, Winfield High School Swim Team or Moline United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
