Daniel Hayden "Dan" Foster, 68, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, August 28, 2011 at his home.
Born November 03, 1942 on the family farm near Wauneta, Kansas, he was the son of Robert Lee and LaVerna Opal (Greathouse) Foster. He was raised and received his education in Belknap and Sedan, graduating from Sedan High School in May of 1960. He then attended Coffeyville Junior College. After school he began working in construction until he was inducted into the United States Army in 1964. After his honorable discharge from the Army in 1966, he began working for Albert Harlow Caterpillar, and for North American Rockwell in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Daniel was united in marriage to Mary Swisher on May 30, 1970, at the Hackney Community Baptist Church. The couple made their home in Tulsa where Dan began his career with Jewel Tea, also known as J.T.'s General Store. He then went to work for Wonder Bread where he remained until his retirement in 2004.
Dan was a member of the Hackney Community Baptist Church and a past member of the Winfield Bowling Association, the American Legion, and the Teamster Union. He enjoyed deer and quail hunting, bowling, fishing, woodworking, and gardening.

His sisters: Nina Belle Donohue of Winfield; Nancy Blair of Rose, OK; Lucy Bennett of Gladstone, MO; Carol Shull and husband, Jack of Sedan; Sally Birkle of Arkansas City; Mickey Armbrister and husband, David of Ellis;
His sister-in-law: Esther Foster of Howard;
His grandchildren: Aricka Stout; Mackenzie Stout; John Stout; Peter Stout; and
Numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Dan was preceded in death by a brother William "Bill" Foster, sisters LeOpal Royalty, Mary Clark, and infant twin sisters Ima Lou and Ila Sue Foster.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 03, 2011 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday at Round Mound Cemetery, near Cedar Vale. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, September 02, 2011. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M, that evening.
A memorial has been established in Dan's name for the Hackney Community Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
