Obituary

Dale E. Spoon, 75, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, January 18, 2024, at his home.

Dale was born in Winfield on July 11, 1948.  He was the son of Roy and Ruth (Asbury) Barger.  He was raised and received his education in Dexter, graduating from Dexter High School in 1966.  He worked as a ranch hand for many years while he was young, and later continued to ranch on the weekends.  He was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam Era.

Dale moved to Winfield in 1982.  He married Kathy Marie Blizard on December 27, 1986, in Winfield.  The couple made their home in Winfield where Dale worked as a welder and laborer for Western Manufacturing and Webster Engineering.  He retired from Webster Engineering.

Dale was "a jack of all trades and a master of none but most times better than a master of one".  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, and woodworking.  If asked what he was doing, his answer was always, "Just piddlin".

His family includes his wife Kathy Spoon of Winfield; his children, Dayla (Robert) Ankrom of Topkea; Dorene (Colin) Workman of Winfield; Darlene (Brian) Stevens of Wichita; DelRoy (Anji) Spoon of Winfield; Michael (Dallas) Shannon of Winfield; Jeff (LJ) Shannon of Topeka; his brothers, Gene Spoon of Winfield; Riley Duane Barger of Tucson, AZ; his sister Cathy Smith of Broken Arrow, OK; his grandchildren, Amanda, Thomas, Trey, Kylie, Shyann, Jake, Jessica, Crystal, Robert Dale, Chris, Tyler, Jazmyne, Maximus, Alexa, Henry; his 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by a sister Sara Barger, sister-in-law Janet Spoon, granddaughter Samantha Donohue, grandson Tucker Shannon, and great granddaughter Bailey Donohue.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 26, 2024, at Miles Funeral Service.  Interment will follow at South Prairie Cemetery.  A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M.  The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Dale's name for Gentiva Hospice.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
