CONNIE G. HANKINS, 61, of Winfield passed away at her home on Thursday, June 4, 2009.
Connie was born November 8, 1947 in Ogden, Utah to Russell Vern and Wanda (Hamblin) Gordon. She was raised in the Ronan, Montana area and received her education in Missoula, Montana.
Connie enlisted in the United States Army in July of 1969 and served in the medical department in California until her honorable discharge in July of 1970.
While in the Army, Connie met Milton Hankins, whom she later married and had sons, Richard and Robert. During their 24 year marriage, they traveled extensively due to Milton's military obligations; living in California, Arkansas, Germany and Georgia, before moving to Kansas in 1984.
Connie worked for many years as a medical assistant with Drs. Bruce Wells and Leland Kaufman, before leaving to pursue her LPN through Wichita Area Technical College in 1996. She worked at several places in the Winfield and Wichita area as an LPN, where she touched many peoples' lives before retiring in 2009.
Connie was an avid reader of anything, mostly romance and suspense novels, and enjoyed trading novels with her family. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Wanda.
She is survived by:
Her sons: Richard M. and his wife, Connie, and their sons, Michael and Aaron, all of Eudora, KS; and Robert M. and his fiancé Brianne and their children, Andrew, Leah, and Ava, all of Augusta, KS;
Her brother: Robert E. Gordon and his wife, Lorrie; and
Numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Connie's wishes, cremation has been effected. A memorial service will be held Monday evening, June 15, 2009 at 6:30 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. After which her ashes will be transported by family members to Calvary Cemetery in Ronan, Montana, where they will be buried along side those of her mother and father.
A Memorial has been established with the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
