Clifton Carnes, Sr., 70, of rural Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, November 26, 2016 at Regent Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Wichita.
Born November 7, 1946 in Barbourville, Kentucky, he was the son of Clell and Annie Carnes. He was raised and received his education in Covington, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio. After school, he joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for four years in active duty and four years in the Air Force Reserves. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Kentucky and later moved to Kansas to be with his children.
Clifton was united in marriage to Jeanene L. Luton on July 30, 1977 at the First Christian Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield and Clifton worked for Total Refinery in Arkansas City until its' closure in 1996. He then began working as a welder for Barns Co. in Arkansas City. Jeanene preceded him in death on February 1, 2005.
He was a member of Mt. Zion Community Church in Arkansas City. He enjoyed hunting, coin collecting, working on antique cars and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

His sons: Clifton Carnes, Jr. and wife, Tanza of Scott City; Rex Kendall and wife, Leslie of Winfield; Lonnie Kendall and wife, Michele of Westminster, CO; and
His ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Clifton was preceded in death by a son, Steven Carnes.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Clifton's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
