Cleta L. Porter, 86, of Winfield, passed away Thursday morning, January 13, 2022, at the Kansas Veterans Home.
Born January 16, 1935, in Udall, Cleta was the daughter of Cecil C. Defore and Lois Gentry. She was raised and received her education in Udall, graduating from Udall High School.
On February 18, 1955, Cleta was united in marriage to Thomas Harvey "Tom" Porter in Udall. The couple resided in Winfield throughout their nearly 44 years of marriage. Cleta worked at First National Bank for eight years. She ran a professional daycare in her home for 35 years, retiring in May 1998. Tom preceded her in death on February 1, 1999.
Cleta was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winfield for many years as well ESA International and the Elk's Lodge. Cleta loved to go dancing with Tom and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Her family includes her children, Britt Porter and wife, Jan of Winfield; Blake Porter and friend, Reini Waldorf of Winfield; Renae Witt and husband, Tim of Wichita; her siblings, Glenda Lane and husband, Kenny of Arizona; Dan C. Defore and wife, Brenda of Winfield; Debbie Bauer and husband, Arlan of Wichita; her grandchildren, Matthew Porter and wife, Sonya; Chelsie Porter; Marcus Porter; Grant Stinson and wife, Elizabeth; Linley Webb and husband, Matt; Nicole Porter; Emerson (Porter) Floyd and husband, Ishmeal; Jason Witt; Josh Witt; 18 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Cleta was preceded in death by two sisters, Janie Ketchum and Donna Storey, and family friend Danny Stowell.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 21, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Cleta's name for First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
