Cleta Howe, 70, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, January 31, 2019 at Lifecare Center of Andover.
Born July 29, 1948 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Roy A. and Margie (Parker) Downen. She was raised and received her early education in Douglass and Latham, and in 1960 the family moved to Burden, Kansas where Cleta finished her education, graduating from Burden High School in 1966. Following school, she was married and had two children. The couple later divorced.
Cleta was united in marriage to Maurice K. Howe on August 25, 1979 at the home of a family friend in Burden. The couple had a son and made their home in Burden. Cleta continued her career as a CNA working for several nursing homes in Douglass, Winfield, and Dexter. She retired from the nursing home in Dexter in the late 1980's due to health concerns. Mr. Howe preceded her in death on January 25, 2019.
She was a member of the Rock Christian Church. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, camping, fishing, making frybread, crafts, and playing cards and Yahtzee with family.
Her family includes her sons, Rodney Mann and wife, Barri of Udall; John Dennis Howe of Burden; her brother Roy D. Downen and wife, Sandra of Branson West, MO; her grandchildren, Ryan Mann, Jennica Carlson; Kyle Sadler; Coty Shelton; Whitney Rowe; Shelby Mann; Warren Howe; Joel Howe; Desiree Howe; Derrick Keith; Kayla Howe; Logan Howe; Reece Howe; and Anastasia Voelker; her 11 great grandchildren; and her faithful fur baby Alli.
Cleta was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and grandparents.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Cleta's name for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
