CLARENCE BROOKINGS, 81, of Udall, Kansas, was welcomed to his eternal home on Thursday morning, January 7, 2010 at his home.
Born on April 1, 1928 in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of Arthur and Clintie (Conner) Brookings. He was raised and received his education in Wichita. As a young man, Clarence was a paperboy, was employed for Western Union, worked as a stockman for J.C. Penney and a foundry worker.
He was united in marriage on June 27, 1946 to Joyce Ferguson in Wichita where the couple made their home until 1949 and then moved to Udall. He began employment for Santa Fe Railroad, Udall Co-op, Valley Feed & Seed and Cessna. Clarence also farmed most of his life and retired in 1997.
He was a member of the Congregational Church in Udall, now called Heritage Church. He also belonged to the Cowley County Landowner's Association serving as president for 2 years and the K & O Steam and Gas Engine Association. He loved restoring antique tractors.

His grandchildren: Randall Brookings and Amy of Mulvane, KS; Kelli Wilkerson and husband Terry of Skiatook, OK; Allen Schanbacher of Udall, KS; Amy Guinn and husband Caleb of Mulvane, KS; and Jennifer Brookings of Wichita, KS;
His 3 step-grandchildren;
His great-grandchildren: Shyanne, Kylie, Tyler, Kaitlin; and
8 step-great-grandchildren, and Kenny Rhodes
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Johnny.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Heritage Church in Udall. Interment will follow at the Udall Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M., Sunday, January 10, 2010. The family will greet friends from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M., that afternoon.
Memorials have been established in Mr. Brooking's name for the American Cancer Society and Heartland Hospice in Wichita. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
