Clara M. Carpenter, 95, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, previously of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, July 9, 2016 at the Peechtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Georgia.
Born October 30, 1920 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of David Duane and Amelia Catherine (Zirkel) Nixon. She was raised and received her education in Oxford.
Clara was united in marriage to Leonard Carpenter on December 21, 1940 in Newton, Kansas. The couple made their first home in the Winfield area. As a young woman, she worked at Boeing. The couple later moved to Liberal, Kansas, where Clara worked for First National Bank. Leonard preceded her in death in 1971. Clara retired from the bank in 1993. Following her retirement, Clara moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia to be with her daughter.
Clara loved flowers. She loved to spend time working in her yard and admiring her flower gardens.

Her granddaughter: Kimberly Denn of Monticello, GA;
Her great grandchildren: James Denn, III and wife, Angel of Monticello, GA; Ashley Denn of Riverdale, CA; Zachary Denn of Jonesboro, GA; and
Her 2 great-great grandchildren: James Denn, IV and Autumn Denn.
In addition to her parents and husband, Clara was preceded in death by her brother, Orville Nixon.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 15, 2016 at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
