Obituary

Christine F. Whiteman, 73, of Atlanta, Kansas passed away Sunday morning, October 21, 2012 at her home.

Born October 10, 1939 in Winfield, Kansas she was the daughter of Wesley "Bud and Helen L. (Carver) Sandstrum. She was raised four miles west of Atlanta on the family farm and received her education in Atlanta, graduating from Atlanta High School in 1957.

Christine was united in marriage to G. Eldon Whiteman on May 13, 1961 in Liberal, Kansas. The couple made their home on a farm four miles east of Atlanta, where she enjoyed raising their children and working the land with Eldon. They enjoyed going on many motorcycle trips. Eldon preceded her in death on June 28, 2002.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing and passing on her seamstress talents to her grandchildren. She especially loved animals.

Her family includes:
Her son: Brent Whiteman and wife, Cindy of Atlanta;
Her daughter: Kristie Ball of Winfield;
Her grandchildren: Hannah Ball; Addison Ball; James Spencer and Brittney Hartman; Ed and Christal Kidd; Jessica Spencer;
Her great grandchildren: Josh, Arien, Trenton, Kadence, and Jordyn; and
Her four legged companion: Little Duke.

In addition to her parents and husband Christine was preceded in death by an infant son Michael Whiteman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Timber Creek Cemetery east of Atlanta.

A memorial has been established in Mrs. Whiteman's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
