Obituary

CHARLOTTE KATE TEEL JOHNSON, 96, died peacefully at Cumbernauld Village at the age of 96.

Kate was born in Urich, Missouri, the child of William Teel and Pearl Craft Teel. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1934 and moved to Winfield shortly thereafter, where she attended Southwestern College.

On May 30, 1945 Kate married the late R. Smith Johnson, and the couple settled on Route 1, in the Grandview community. They moved to Cherry Street in Winfield in 1972.

Kate took great satisfaction in her long career as a bookkeeper. During World War II, she worked at Cessna Aircraft in Wichita. After raising her family, Kate returned to work in the accounting department of the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center and worked there until her retirement. During her retirement years, Kate volunteered with Winfield's Meals on Wheels program, and participated in volunteer activities at the Christian Church.

Kate is survived by her children: Catherine, Craig and Mark Johnson, grandchildren: Sarah Jackson, Aaron Johnson, Charli Johnson Sumpter, Alison Headley, John Headley and Morgan Deuschle, and seven great-grand children. Kate is also survived by her son-in-law, David Headley and daughters-in-law: Suzie, Cheryl and Linda, and her cousin and close friend Judy Bink.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brothers: Paul Martin, Clifford Teel and Jack Teel.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace United Methodist Church. A light reception will be held immediately following services to greet the family. Private inurnment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winfield at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Kate's honor may be made to the Eagle's Nest in Winfield or to the Winfield Meals on Wheels program. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
