CHARLES E. RISING, 83, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, May 15, 2014 at his home.
Born on May 3, 1931 in rural Cowley County, Kansas, he was the son of Glen E. and Eunice (Bennett) Rising. He was raised and received his education in Cowley County. Charles worked at a flour mill in Winfield in the early 1950's.
A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Rising proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Corporal and later transferred to the United States Army Reserves as Armor Mechanic.
Charles was united to Eleanor Greer on August 23, 1954 in Miami, Oklahoma. He worked in the oilfield and later was a self-employed farmer until retiring in 1993. He also handled and traded horses which he really enjoyed.

His sons: Kenneth Rising of Vian, OK; and Charles A. Rising of Collinsville, OK;
His daughter: Judith Turner and husband Joe of Arkansas City, KS;
His sisters: Glenice Bannon and Norma Ireland both of Winfield, KS;
His grandchildren: Ryan Rising and wife Bobbi, Austin Rising, Kamie Bodkins and husband Darin, and Colt Chattam and wife Chelsey;
His great-grandchildren: Gage and Hunter Bodkins, and Kooper and Kenlee Chattam;
Several nieces and nephews and his dog Max.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger Rising.
Memorial services with military committal honors will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield.
A memorial has been established in Mr. Rising's name for the Winfield Food Pantry. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
