CHARLES LEE MILLER, 81, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, June 28, 2013 at Cumbernauld in Winfield surrounded by his family.
Born on July 30, 1931 in Moline, Kansas, he was the son of Oscar and Sarah (Dorsey) Miller. He was raised and received his education in Howard. As a young man Charlie drove alfalfa trucks in Elk County.
A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Miller proudly served his country in the United States Army for 8 years. He was a Corporal at the time of his honorable discharge on July 19, 1961.
He was united in marriage on August 21, 1954 to Mary A. Harrington at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Moline. They made their first home in Moline and he worked for the Elk County Road Department. The couple also lived in Wichita and moved to Winfield in 1969. Charles had worked for Firestone, Boeing, Beech and Cessna Aircraft and Butler Brothers. In the mid 1970's he began employment for the City of Winfield and retired in 1991 as foreman of the street department.
Charlie was a hardworking man and loved his children very much. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren could put a smile on his face. He loved to work in the yard and garden, woodworking and traveling to Branson, Missouri.

His sister: Ellen Curtis of Leesburg, FL;
His grandchildren: Jessica and Randy Denton of Galva, KS; Danielle and Trey Wilson of Branson, MO; Holly & Chase McWilliams of Arkansas City, KS; Erin Miller and Nathan Miller of Winfield, KS; and Kelsey Miller of Clovis, NM; and
His great-grandchildren: Shailee Denton, Kyson Clark and Reese McWilliams.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lola King, Lodean Lauffer and Rosie Gray; and his brother, John Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Military committal honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday, July 1, 2013. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.
A memorial has been established in Mr. Miller's name for Rivercross Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
