Obituary

CHARLES ROGER LYKE, 71, of Cedar Vale, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, March 31, 2010 at his home.

Born on October 13, 1938 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Charles H. and Ruth Anne (Sitton) Lyke. He was raised and received his education in Cambridge, Kansas, and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1956. Roger later attended Cowley County Junior College and Kansas State University.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961 until 1963 as a Private First Class. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Cambridge.

He was united in marriage to Jeanette Goode on September 25, 1964 in Burden, Kansas. Roger started working for Cities Service Gas Company at Greensburg, Kansas. He worked for Cities Service/Williams Gas Company and retired in 1998 following 33 years of service.

He was a gold card member of the PRCA. Roger was also a member of the American Legion Post #201 in Cedar Vale, and the National Rifle Association. His hobbies included building saddles, being outdoors, hunting and fishing.

His aunt: Marquerite Reece of Winfield, KS;
His sister-in-laws: Nancy Schmid of Cheyenne, WY; Billie Finley and husband Sol of Winfield, KS; Sherry Lancaster and husband Jim of Atlanta, GA; Deborah Collingsworth and husband Steve of Arkansas City, KS; and Robin Goode of Arkansas City, KS; and
A host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Inurnment will follow at Round Mound Cemetery, northeast of Cedar Vale.

Memorials have been established in Roger's name for the American Cancer Society and Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made at the funeral home,
