Obituary

Charles Raymond Hamlin, 82, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, December 25, 2019 at William Newton Hospital.

Born June 28, 1937 in Ellsworth, Kansas, he was the son of Charles Earnest and Dorothy Esther Gene (Smeltzer) Hamlin. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1955. While in high school Charles was a member of the tennis team, winning a state championship in doubles tennis.

Following high school, Charles joined the United States Air Force in January 1956, serving during Vietnam. He proudly served his country for 23 years before retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of the American Legion Post 10 and the VFW Post 3544.

His family includes his nieces, Diana Jean Edwards-Shelton; and Lori Edwards-Trentham; great nephews, William Eugene Robles and Collin Andrew Edwards; great niece Arielle Rose Trentham; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by a niece Kathleen Dawn Edwards, and his sister Joyce Jean Hamlin-Edwards.

Graveside funeral services with Military Committal Honors will be held Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 from 3 to 7 P.M.

Memorials have been established in Charles' name for the VFW Post 3544 and American Legion Post 10. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
