Obituary

Charles Wilbur Cromley, 79, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, December 17, 2019 at Winfield Senior Living.

Born September 17, 1940 in Winfield, he was the son of Roy Lee and Jessie Christina (Whaley) Cromley. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1959. Charles worked various jobs when he was younger including power and electric, farmhand, salesman for candy and peanuts, and at Gott Manufacturing.

He was united in marriage to Lois Ann Denton on November 7, 1981 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Charles went to work for the Cowley County Highway Department in 1967 and worked there until 1977 when he began employment at Cessna Aircraft in Strother Field. In 1982, he returned to the Highway and Bridge Department and worked as an operator until his retirement in October 2002. Lois preceded Charles in death on April 29, 2009.

Charles was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield. He served as Deacon and Education Director, as well as was the Cabinet Head of the church for two years. He was also a member of the K&O Steam & Gas Engine Association. He enjoyed water skiing. Charles was an adult leader in Boy Scouts of America for 15 years. During that time, he took two trips with eight boys to the Philmont Scouting Range and two trips with eight boys to Canada.

His family includes his children, Tim Tong and wife, Tresa of Oxford; Mike Tong and wife, Doreen of Winfield; Deborah "Crystal" Gordon and husband, Guy of Wichita; his grandchildren, William Tong and wife, Laura, Melanie Martin and husband, Ryan, Tim Tong, Jr. and wife, Sabrina, Danny Tong and wife, Robin, Christopher Tong and wife, Jacqueline, Jennifer Tong, Nicholas Tong, Justin Tong and wife, Heather; and great grandchildren, Connor, Morgan, Liana, Ian, Eli, Chloe, Macy, Mikayla, Aubree, Haydyn, Micah, Chastalyn, Ryan, Jordan, Grace, and Carson.

In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Leroy Cromley.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 27, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private interment will take place at Union Graham Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Charles' name for the Winfield Foody Pantry. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
