Obituary

CHARLENE F. DIXON, 78, of Weslaco, Texas and former Winfield, Kansas resident, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2008 at her home in Weslaco.

Born on June 3, 1930 in Pratt, Kansas, she was the daughter of Dwight and Della (Ewbank) Cromer. She was raised in Pratt, Sawyer and later Kiowa before graduating from Kingman High School in 1948.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence Dixon on July 25, 1948 in Kingman. In 1962, the couple moved to Winfield where Lawrence managed the Winfield Coop. Charlene was the bookkeeper there from 1968 until 1972. She was also a fulltime homemaker.

In 1991, the couple began spending their winters in Weslaco and made their permanent residence there in 2001. While living in Winfield, Charlene was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star-Queen City Chapter. She enjoyed playing card games, especially Canasta, and working puzzles. She also loved camping and boating.

Her son: Larry Dixon and wife Jill of Wichita, KS;
Her daughter: Ginger Glenn of El Dorado, KS;
Her sister: Coeta Strothman of Pratt, KS;
Her grandchildren: Corey Dixon and wife Nicole, and Rusty Glenn; and
Her great-grandchild: Shawn Dixon.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 26, 2008 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment ceremonies will be held at 2:30 P.M., at the Cleveland Cemetery in Cleveland, Kansas.

A memorial has been established in Charlene's name for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
