CECIL JOHNSON, 86, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, March 23, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Born on February 20, 1922, in rural Dexter, Kansas, he was the son of Elmer and Cleo (Tredway) Johnson. He was raised in the Dexter area, attending grade school at Highland School and graduating from Dexter High School.
On August 6, 1950, Cecil married Joy Palmer-Davis in Winfield. The couple made their home in Dexter. He joined the United States Army in 1944, serving in WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He worked on his ranch, raising cattle and hogs. Mr. Johnson also worked for Hittle's Propane for 10 years retiring at the age of 65 in 1987. He continued to work on the ranch until his health began to fade.
He was a member of the Dexter First Baptist Church as well as the Masonic Lodge of Dexter where he had earned his 60 year pin. He enjoyed working with his cattle, gardening, fixing fence, cutting wood and especially spending time with his family and friends.

His daughters: Cecelia Whitmore and husband Kent of Winfield; Jo Williams and husband Leon of Dexter; Gay Knight of Winfield; and Cindy Darbro and husband Dana of Emporia;
His sisters: Hazel Reed of Tacoma, WA and Gladys Mills of Yale, OK; and
His 24 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren on the way and 3 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Mike Knight.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Dexter. Interment will follow at Dexter Cemetery. Memorials have been established in Cecil's name for the First Baptist Church of Dexter, First Christian Church of Dexter, the Outreach Church in Dexter, and for the Dexter Masonic Lodge. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
