Catherine Marie Potter, 89, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Larksfield Place in Wichita.

Born March 17, 1929 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Harvey and Nettie (Baird) McFarland. She was the youngest of seven children and attended Stevenson grade school and graduated from Winfield High School in 1947. She became a member of Grace United Methodist Church as a young child.

Marie married her childhood sweetheart, Richard D. Potter on June 8, 1947. The couple made their home in Winfield. She was employed at Dungey's Firestone Store in the late 1940's and later worked at William Newton Hospital as a switchboard operator. During the 1970's and 1980's, she was employed at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center and later transferred to Winfield SRS Office where she worked until her retirement in 1991.

The loves of her life were her family and friends and her church. She also enjoyed music, sewing, cooking, gardening, and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Forrest and Kenneth McFarland, four sisters, Lucille Dikeman, Geneva Cole, Sister Mary Virgil, and Alice Weigle, a daughter, Gail Lowther-Morton and son, Kent D. Potter.

Survivors include her daughter Karen L. Taylor of Arcola, MO; five grandchildren, Jennifer Harrison of Winfield; Jill Elkins of Independence; Amber Fluis of Wichita; Jared Fluis of Spring Hill; and Samantha Potter of Wichita; 15 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Inurnment will follow at Union Graham Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Marie's name for Grace United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
