Catherine L. Meyer, 86, of Rock, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, June 5, 2018 at Medicalodges in Douglass, Kansas.
Born March 23, 1932 in Douglass, Kansas, she was the daughter of Fred and Ethel (Wheeler) Howard. She was raised and received her education in Douglass, graduating from Douglass High School in 1951. After school she began working at Boeing in Wichita.
She was united in marriage to Jack Meyer on October 21, 1955 in Las Cruses, New Mexico. The couple made their first home in New Mexico while Jack was stationed at White Sands with the Army. In 1956 when Jack was transferred to Germany, Catherine returned to Douglass and continued her career at Boeing. In 1957 the couple moved to a farm between Atlanta and Rock, at this time Catherine left Boeing to help on the farm and raise the family's children. In 1980 she returned to Boeing and remained there until retiring as an Inspector in 1993.
She was a member of the Prairie View United Methodist Church, Soroptimist, Ladies Aid, and the County Extension Unit. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, designing floats, fishing, watching baseball, and helping on the farm, especially driving the truck during harvest.
Her family includes her husband Jack Meyer of Rock; her children Howard Meyer and wife, Becky of Burden; Carman Benton and husband, Greg of Arkansas City; Cora Meyer of Douglass; Rodney Meyer and wife, Shirley of Mulvane; her sister Ann Tabor; and her 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Lloyd, and Paul Howard, and four sisters, Pauline Houser, Edna Maness, Mildred Maddox, and Alta Jane Carr.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 11, 2018 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas. Interment will follow at Wilmot Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, June 10, 2018 from 2 to 5. The family will greet visitors at that time.
Memorials have been established in Catherine's name for Prairie View United Methodist Church and for RiverCross Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
