Catherine J. Freeman, 98, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, February 8, 2015 at the Kansas Veterans Home.
Born June 23, 1916 in Joplin, Missouri, she was the daughter of Robert Ingersoll and Maude (Frederick) Wood. She was raised and received her education in Joplin, graduating from Joplin High School in 1934.
She joined the United States Army and served prior to, during and a short time after World War II. She was a Nurse Anesthetist for the Army. After her honorable discharge, she worked at St. John Hospital in Joplin.
Catherine was united in marriage to Hilton Freeman at the age of 39. The couple made their home in Joplin. Mr. Freeman preceded her in death. Catherine moved to Winfield in 2008 to be at the Kansas Veterans Home.
Mrs. Freeman was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Joplin. She was a well versed, intelligent woman. She did all kinds of crafts, including needlepoint, knitting and crochet. She loved to read enjoyed her pets.

Her nephews: Phillip Wood and wife, Denise of Burden, KS; George Wood and wife, Patty of Park City, KS; Floyd Wood of Wichita; and
Many great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Catherine was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Frankie Wood.
The family will hold memorial services at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A Memorial has been established in Catherine's name for the Kansas Veterans Home. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
