Obituary

CARROLL W. WISELEY, 97, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, October 18, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Village in Winfield.

Born on January 8, 1912 in rural Arkansas City, Kansas, he was the son of Billy Frank and Mary Emma (Robinson) Wiseley. He attended Cowley County rural schools and later graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1930.

He was united in marriage on November 18, 1934 to Wilda W. Hunt in the parsonage at the Hackney United Brethren Church in Hackney, Kansas. The couple made their home on a farm southeast of Hackney in the South Bend Community for seven years. They then moved four miles west of Hackney where they made their home for 63 years. In 2004, the couple moved into the assisted living apartments at Good Samaritan Village. Mrs. Wiseley preceded him in death on October 1, 2006.

Carroll was a member of the Hackney Community Baptist Church, several local Co-op's, the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers, K & O Steam and Gas Engine Association, the Hackney Kiwanis Club and the Kansas Flying Farmers. Besides being a tiller of the soil, Carroll loved woodworking, making clocks, and making items from scrap metal horseshoes.

His family includes:
His nephews: Lester C. Priest of Winfield, Kansas; and Eldon E. Eastman of Arkansas City, KS;
His nieces: Annette (Eastman) Wing of Newkirk OK; and Marilyn (Hunt) Ervin of Topeka, KS;
His brother-in-law: Cecil Eastman of Arkansas City, KS;
His sister-in-law: Doris J. (Hunt) Priest of Winfield, KS;
and
A host of great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Ora Wiseley; and his sisters, Marie Mosier and Lela Voorhis.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Tannehill Cemetery, southwest of Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 21, 2009.

A memorial has been established in Carroll's name for the Hackney Community Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
