Obituary

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Carolyn Kay Sneed, 75, of Oxford, Kansas. Carolyn passed Friday afternoon, May 29, 2020 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with all three of her children by her side.

Carolyn was born December 10, 1944 in Hugoton, Kansas, the daughter of George and Gladys (Guyer) Sims.  She was raised and received her education in Hugoton where she graduated Hugoton High School in 1962. Carolyn then went on to attend Southwestern College in Winfield from 1962-1966 and earned a degree in elementary education. She was united in marriage June 30, 1968 in Hugoton and then resided in Oxford where they raised their three children, but later divorced. Her first teaching job was at Oxford Elementary School in 1966 where she taught first grade.  Although she took a few years off to raise her children, Carolyn remained at Oxford Elementary for 34 years where she taught first, third, and fourth grade.  She loved her years teaching where she impacted so many lives over the years.  Due to health complications, after 3 years of retirement Carolyn moved to Winfield Rest Haven in Oct of 2013.  During her time there she cherished the many relationships that she formed with the other residences and staff members.

Carolyn was an active member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, where she loved signing in the choir and teaching vacation bible school.  She also belonged to Soldanella, the Oxford Mother's Club, and later the Red Hat Society in Winfield Rest Haven.  She enjoyed doing crafts, playing piano, singing, snuggling with her cats and baking elaborately decorated cakes.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Her family includes her children, Camille Richert and husband, Preston of Winfield; Craig Sneed and wife, Teresa of Duncan, OK; Colette Sneed of Louisville, CO; her sister Janine Beltz and husband, Dale of Hugoton; and her grandchildren, Rozlynn, Rhyanna, Rheegyn, Rylan, Gwyneth, and Garrett.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her infant twin brother Carl J. Sims.
