Carolyn Jean Ellingson, 75, of Winfield, KS, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2020, at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis.
Carolyn was born on June 25, 1945 in Memphis, Tennessee, to William Andrew Sutton and Gloria (O'Rourke) Sutton. She attended schools in Memphis before moving to California where she graduated from Torrance High School. She continued her education by taking courses in accounting and nursing.
Carolyn married Craig Douglas Ellingson on August 9, 1979 in Eureka, California. The couple raised three daughters together. The family moved to Winfield in 1981.
Carolyn held several nursing jobs in California. After moving to Winfield, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Anthony's clothing store and Graves Drug. Later, she worked as a Medication Aide and Medical Records Manager at Good Samaritan. She finished her career working for Head Start in Arkansas City.
Carolyn was the glue that held the family together. She was always calling, texting, or video chatting with daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The home was always full of family on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
She enjoyed many activities with family. She loved game and craft time with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved camping, boating, and swimming at the Winfield Lake. She loved sewing, baking cookies for the family, reading, and gardening.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William and Irwin Sutton; a sister Gloria Pierce; and a grandson Marcus Sloan. She is survived by her husband Craig; daughters Dana Marler, Michelle (Scott) Krook, and Cheri Speer; her sister, Linda Sutton; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Due to the COVID Virus, the family will hold a private funeral service at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home for Thursday evening September 3, 2020, from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Carolyn's name for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
