January 4, 1945 – October 16, 2023
Carole Ann Stine, 78, of Arkansas City, passed away Monday morning, October 16, 2023, at William Newton Hospital.
Born January 4, 1945, in Emmetsburg, IA, she was the daughter of Harley and Argenia (Christensen) Wedgbury. Carole's first three years were spent in Iowa after her father passed away in WWII. Her mother remarried when she was four, and the family moved to a farm near Winfield. Carole received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1963. Following high school, Carole attended the University of Arizona on a cello scholarship.
Carole returned to Winfield and met her future husband, Jerry Stine, while he was working on the farm for her step-father, Merle O'Neil. The couple was united in marriage on June 6, 1965 at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. Carole worked as a homemaker for 20 years.
In 1985, she earned her Bachelor's degree in education from Fontbonne University in Clayton, MO. Carole spent the majority of her years teaching in elementary schools. In 1994, the family returned to Winfield to be near and care for Carole and Jerry's aging parents. She continued her teaching career at Country View Elementary School, The Independent School in Wichita, Winfield Middle School, Winfield High School, and finally, Lowell Elementary, from where she retired in 2012. She enjoyed substitute teaching at Ark City Christian Academy in her retirement.
Carole enjoyed shopping, cooking, and entertaining. She established a welcoming home for family, friends, and even her children's friends to enjoy. Most importantly, Carole adored her grandchildren. She had the most caring heart and knew how to make anyone feel special.
Her family includes her loving husband of 58 years Jerry Stine of Arkansas City; her children, Jason Stine and wife, Patricia of Fredericksburg, VA; Jeff Stine and wife, Kimberly of Ithaca, NY; Judy Haynes and husband, Bryan of Arkansas City; and Jennifer Farrell and husband, Kyle of Overland Park; her grandchildren, Hayley, Blayne, McKenna, Harper, Hayden, Lily James, Harrison, and Nolan; her sister Judy Beam and husband, Sam of Garden City, ID; her brother Mark O'Neil and wife, Donna of Winfield; her brother and sister-in-law Dean and Marlene Stine of Wichita; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
