Obituary

Carol Mae Waldschmidt, 79, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, September 10, 2022 at her home.

Born July 22, 1943 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Ancil and Eula (Brubaker) Wood. She was raised and received her education in Dexter, graduating from Dexter High School in 1961.

She was united in marriage to Donald D. Waldschmidt on February 28, 1962 in Oxford, Kansas. The couple made their home on a farm near Dexter. Carol began working for the Courthouse in Winfield, before working for Binney and Smith. She later worked at Rubbermaid, and then started her career working for the State of Kansas. She remained at the State of Kansas until her retirement on July 22, 2006. In addition to their own children, Carol and Don served as foster parents for over 45 years fostering 142 children.

Carol was a member of Dexter Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed sewing clothes for her family. She also enjoyed baking cakes, making wedding cakes and birthday cakes for almost everyone in the family.

Her family includes her husband Don Waldschmidt of Dexter, her children, Jana Reynolds and companion, Dennis Cancello of Wichita; Jaymie Waldschmidt and wife Ardelia of Dexter; her brother Randy Wood; and her eight grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by a daughter Jill Ratzloff, a son-in-law Marty Reynolds, sisters, Melva Fulmer and Karen Neubecker, a brother Tony Wood, grandchildren, Bairelle Looney, Velicia Campbell, and William Looney, and great-great grandchildren, Kabryn Looney and Audry Waldschmidt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday September 16, 2022 at Dexter Christian Church in Dexter. Interment will follow at Dexter Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday evening from 4 to 8 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 7 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Carol's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
