Carol Lee Shields, 72, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, September 20, 2016 at her home.
Born March 26, 1944 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Carl Ray and Maude Sophia (Stewart) Shields. She was raised and received her education in Atlanta, Kansas, graduating as Valedictorian from Atlanta High School in 1962. After high school, she attended Butler County Community College.
After school, Carol returned to Winfield to care for her father and mother. She began work as a secretary at General Electric. She later worked at Gordon Piatt for over 28 years before retiring in 2000. She was instrumental in the lives of her family, helping to raise her niece, Debra Foust-McLaughlin. She enjoyed working crafts, reading and especially loved spending time with her family and spoiling her dog Daisy Dawn.

Her nephews and nieces: Tony Foust, Randy Foust, Christa Furrey, Debra Foust-McLaughlin and Brenda Doak;
Her great nieces: Misty McLaughlin; Juathina McLaughlin;
Her great nephew: Cody McLaughlin; and
Numerous great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Neubecker, two nephews, Matt McLaughlin and Graham Springer, and a great-great niece, Haley Dawn.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Friday evening from 4 to 8.
A memorial has been established in Carol's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
