Obituary

Carol Jean Mitchell, 92, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Friday morning, August 2, 2019 at William Newton Hospital.

Born December 23, 1926 in Madison, Kansas, she was the daughter of Leonard and Matilda "Tillie" (Weaver) Weinrich. She was raised and received her education in Winfield graduating from Winfield High School in 1944.

She was united in marriage to B. Francis Mitchell on March 9, 1946 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Carol worked most of her life as a secretary. She worked with Andreas and McSpadden Law Firm, and later at William Newton Hospital. She then worked at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center, helping run the Foster Grandparent Program, where she remained until retiring in the 1980's. After retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling to Colorado. Mr. Mitchell preceded her in death in 1991.

Carol was the longest living and oldest member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, working with the church, and being with her family.

Her family includes her son Barton Mitchell and wife, Kristin of Winfield; her daughter Damaris Lacy and husband, David of Cleveland, OH; and numerous nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by a daughter Jo Carol "Jody" Mitchell and a brother Philip Weinrich.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Carol's name for Trinity Lutheran School. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
