Carmen K. Porter, 72, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away December 25, 2018 at William Newton Hospital.
Born November 3, 1946 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Monford "Rex" and Melba Rose (Allen) Metz. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1964.
She was united in marriage to Leonard F. Porter on February 11, 1966 in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Winfield before moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado in July 1980 where she worked in the bakery department for King Soopers. They returned to Arkansas City, Kansas in 1987 and Carmen began working for Binney & Smith. She remained at Binney & Smith for over ten years until the plant closed in 1997. Mr. Porter preceded her in death on August 21, 1996.
She enjoyed trips to Burger Station, feeding the ducks at Island Park, and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Her family includes her daughters, Lisa Kreie and wife, Lori Nadeau of Peyton, CO; Dana Cahoon and husband, Jerry of Newkirk, OK; Jonita Smith and husband, Kerry of Winfield; her grandchildren, Brian Haegele of Newkirk, OK; Jesse Pogue and wife, Samantha of Colorado Springs, CO; Zachary Haegele and wife, Charlie of Arkansas City; Jeremy Cahoon of Newkirk, OK; Aubrey Pogue and wife, Ashley of Burden; Stevie Rose Smith of Winfield; and her four great grandchildren, Ameighya, Ariannah, Jayden, and Alaynah.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carmen was preceded in death by her sister Marcia May.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 4, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 3, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
A memorial has been established in Carmen's name to defray medical expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
