Carmen Joyce Ankrom, 80, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, January 3, 2024, at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado.

Born February 27, 1943, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Esley Quincy and Martha Ellen (Love) Powers.  Carmen was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1961.  While in high school, she worked at the Fox Theater.

Carmen was united in marriage to Arthur Dale Ankrom on May 28, 1961, in Winfield.  The couple made their first home in Winfield where Carmen worked as an aide at the hospital.  She later started her career with First National Bank, where she remained for over 20 years, retiring as an officer.  Arthur preceded her in death on August 4, 2022.

Carmen was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield.  She enjoyed baking, sewing, crafts, going out to eat, quilting, and shopping.  She also enjoyed fishing trips to Roaring River each Fall, campouts at the Winfield Lake, and working at and attending the Walnut Valley Festival.  She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren.

Her family includes her daughter Terri Miller and husband, Charles of Winfield; her son Robert T. Ankrom and wife, Dayla of Topeka; her sister Marcia Powell of Winfield; her grandchildren, Alissa Laughlin and husband, Mike of Lakewood, CO; Crystal O'Farrell and husband, Chad of Topeka; Robert Dale Ankrom and Fiance, Olivia Dockery of Wellington; her great granddaughter Lindsay O'Farrell; her dog and bodyguard Scruffy; and her cats Hammy and Mozart.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carmen was preceded in death by her brother John Powers.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Miles Funeral Service.  Interment will follow at New Salem Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Carmen's name for the Cowley County Humane Society.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
