Obituary

CARLTON C. "CARTY" HOPPER, 80, of Burden, Kansas passed away early Friday morning, October 10, 2014 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Born January 22, 1934 in Moline, Kansas, Carty was the son of Joseph Alvin and Helen Aldora (Miller) Hopper. He was raised in rural Grenola and graduated from Grenola High School. He then attended Junior College in Coffeyville.

He was united in marriage to Delores Hurley. To this union three children were born and the couple later divorced. Carty was a well traveled mechanic, carpenter and a farmer. He owned and operated Hopper's Auto Sales and Service and H&M Dozer Service.

Carty enjoyed flying airplanes, elk hunting, and going to Colorado and Osh Kosh for the World Air Show with his good friend, David.

His family includes:
His son: Mike Hopper and wife, Rose of Burden;
His daughter: Carleta Bolack of Winfield;
His brothers: David Hopper and wife, Doretta of Winfield; and Richard Hopper of Oxford;
His long-time friend: Marcia Powell of Winfield;
His grandchildren: Veronica Childs, Nathan and Alex Bolack, Rebecca, Georganna and Carlton "Joe" Hopper; and
His great grandchildren: Xavier and Daphne Childs.

Carty was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday afternoon between 3 and 5 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.

A Memorial has been established in Mr. Hopper's name for the Burden Volunteer Fire Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
