C. DAVID SMITH, 66, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
Born on May 29, 1949 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he was the son of Chester and Norma (Darnell) Smith. He attended schools in Udall and Arkansas City and graduated from Udall High School in 1967.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from December 27, 1968 until December 11, 1972 and then re-enlisted in the Naval Reserves until December 26, 1974.
David was united in marriage to Mary Lou Martin on August 15, 1970 in Winfield where the couple made their home. He was employed at Smith Sanitation in Udall, and later Halliburton for about 6 years. In 1985 he worked at Boeing Aircraft and also owned and operated Smith Machine in Udall. David went to work for GE in 2001 and retired in 2012. He currently owned and operated Dave's Power Coating. Mary preceded him in death on June 18, 2015.
He loved spending time with his family, fishing and camping. David was always ready to help others, and this will continue as his final wishes were to be a tissue donor.

His daughter: Crystal Samms and husband Gary of Winfield, KS;
His brother: Carl Smith and wife Margie of Winfield, KS;
His sister: Kathy Witte and husband Terry of Oxford, KS;
His grandchildren: Taylor Tatro and husband Kyle , Erica Smith and Joey Pool, and Eli & Ellie Samms; and
His great-grandchild: Brinley Tatro.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard, Robert and Kevin Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Miles Funeral Service. Public Military committal honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. The family will greet friends during this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in David's name be made to the Infinite Hero Program. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
