Obituary

Byron James "BJ" Funk, 61, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, February 6, 2012 at his home.

Born July 12, 1950 in Goessel, Kansas, he was the son of Howard and Ruth (Williams) Funk. He was raised and received his education in Wichita, Kansas, graduating from Wichita South High School in 1968.

After school BJ enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1976 and returned to the Wichita area. He the went to work for Allied Crane, as a crane operator.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #4 in Wichita. He enjoyed working on cars, his favorite was the Crimson Critter, which was featured in the Darrell Starbird Car Show. He also enjoyed motorcycles.

His family includes:
His father: Howard Funk and wife, Dorothy of Katy, TX;
His sister: Sharalene Jones and husband, Cecil of Wichita;
His niece: Kettryn Jones of Kansas City, MO;
His nephew: Bradley Jones of Los Angeles, CA; and
His great niece: Olyvia Jones of Kansas City, MO.

Byron was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Funk.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 13, 2012 at Southwest Community Church located at 3214 S. Edward in Wichita, Kansas. Inurnment will be held on Thursday February 16, 2012 at 1:00 P.M., at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Winfield.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest a memorial to the American Legion Post #4 in Wichita. Contributions may be made through the Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
