Born on December 31, 1957 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Joseph and Alberta (Rowe) McChesney. She was raised in McLouth, Kansas, graduating from McLouth High School in 1975, and was a member of the McLouth United Methodist Church. Brenna attended Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kansas and later studied vocal and instrumental music at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. She particularly enjoyed playing the "ragtime" music of Scott Joplin.

While living in Lawrence, Kansas, she worked for Domino's Pizza, where she met her future husband, Tim Dwight. They were united in marriage June 21st, 1980, in McLouth. After her wedding Brenna worked for Aeroquip in Lawrence, Kansas as a service representative. She also worked as a Kelly Girl in New Jersey.

After their children were born, Brenna and Tim set up their home in Richardson, Texas and (briefly) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a homemaker Brenna was very involved in her children's education, volunteering for activities, editing the school yearbook, and serving as a sponsor on school trips.

Brenna's special hobby was family genealogy. She tracked down and made contact with relatives via the Internet and by traveling to Iowa, Ohio, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Ireland as part of her research. She recently organized a McChesney family reunion and produced a DVD of family history to share with the attendees.

Brenna is survived by her husband, Tim; daughter, Rachel Marie; and son, Mark Harrison; all of Richardson, TX; mother, Alberta McChesney; sister, Shavaun Vernon; 3 aunts, 1 uncle, 2 nieces, 6 nephews, and 4 great nephews.
