Brandon Powell, 26, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Friday afternoon, August 17, 2018 at his home.
Born August 14, 1992 in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of Steve and Dawn (Pettigrew) Powell. The family lived in Mulvane, Kansas until 1999 when they moved to Dexter to be near family for help and support with Brandon's autism. Brandon received day and residential services through Brighter Futures, a company his mother started. He attended school at Special Services Coop in Winfield. He was a member of Hicks Chapel. He enjoyed watching videos, music, bubbles and playing in water.
His family includes his parents, Steve and Dawn Powell of Dexter; his sister Kayla Powell of Pittsburg; his maternal grandmother Iola Pettigrew of Winfield; his paternal grandfather Art Tenbrink of Bel Aire; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Brandon was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Harold Pettigrew, his paternal grandmother Ernestine Tenbrink, his paternal grandfather Tommy Powell, and a cousin Jennifer Norris.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Hicks Chapel in Dexter. Interment will follow at Cedar Vale Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Mosaic of Winfield, KS (Serving those with Disabilities). Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
